      Professor Li Yonglan, the Master Supervisor of Guizhou University of Finance and Economics, is devoted to the study of translation theory as well as linguistics, especially good at translation practice and thesis writing. She is responsible for undergraduate and graduate student teaching in the School of Foreign Languages. Professor Li, who once served as the interpreter of United Nations Special Envoy at the International Ecological Conference and interpreted for the UNESCO Conference, has published more than thirty academic articles and one monograph, presided over and participated in a number of research projects. In addition, she is one of the founders of Mingge Translation Workshop of GUFE.

       With regard to teaching ideas, Professor Li, taking the course she conducts A Brief History of Translation in China and the West as an example, believes that teaching methods for undergraduate and graduate students should be different. For undergraduate students, teachers should focus on the popularization of translation history, so as to make students grasp the representative major events in the process of translation development, sort out the characteristics of different translated texts and clarify the basic framework and research ideas of translation history. However, for graduate students, teachers should pay more attention to the cultivation of students’ independent learning ability and help them develop divergent thinking. Therefore, Professor Li often provides high quality bibliography and literature for graduate students so that students can have a deep learning of the characteristics of translated texts in different translation periods through independent research, and come up with their own research ideas and directions in the process of absorbing previous research results. Moreover, in order to cultivate students’ academic research ability, she encourages graduate students to actively participate in academic conferences so that they can have more exchanges with scholars at home and abroad.

As to the cultivation of students’ translation practice ability, Mingge Translation Workshop directed by Professor Li provides students with precious translation practice opportunities. With the strong support of our teachers and the correct leadership of the Communist Party Committee of the School of Foreign Language, the Workshop, integrating professional translation with computer network technology, is committed to improve students’ English level and translation skills so as to train more excellent translators for the society. Speaking of the original intention of establishing Mingge, Professor Li emphasizes that students will be able to combine translation theories with practice. This workshop is students-oriented, so she encourages more students to join in it. Since the establishment of the Workshop, lectures on language have been conducted regularly, including theory and practical training. WeChat subscription of the Workshop will also promulgate excellent translation versions of students for reference. In addition, Professor Li says that the Workshop is founded to serve teachers and students, carrying out translation practice according to the standard process of professional translation company, taking learning and practice as the leading factors to improve the students’ translation ability and meet the social needs. She stresses that the establishment of Mingge Translation Workshop not only enriches the practical channels of students’ translation and stimulates the enthusiasm of students’ English learning, but also develops and increases students’ awareness of social service.

Finally, Professor Li hopes that students can combine the translation theories with practice to improve their professional ability. She says, “As a man learns with passion, he shall be rewarded. As long as you are interested in translation and want to engage in translation practice, welcome to join our workshop to participate in translation practice and learn translation with our teachers and students.”
