The School of Foreign Languages at Guizhou University of Finance and Economics was established in May 2005. It currently offers four undergraduate programs—Business English, Translation, Spanish, and Portuguese—as well as a Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) program. Additionally, the school undertakes public foreign language education for both undergraduate and graduate students across the university. Through continuous adjustments and optimizations, the school has developed a discipline structure centered on foreign language and literature programs, with distinctive features in Business English and Spanish.

The school has a faculty team of 132 members, including 114 full-time teachers. Among them, there are 4 professors, 32 associate professors, and 17 faculty members with doctoral degrees. The proportion of faculty members with senior professional titles is 31.6%, while 100% hold at least a master's degree. About one-third of the faculty have overseas study or research experience, and all possess a background in language education.

Leveraging the university’s unique status as Guizhou Province’s only undergraduate institution specializing in finance and economics, the School of Foreign Languages integrates educational resources to establish a talent cultivation model based on the “Foreign Language + Professional Skills” approach. It aims to nurture academically and practically competent foreign language professionals with strong humanistic qualities, solid language proficiency, innovative thinking, and sustainable development capabilities. Graduates are equipped with international business knowledge and economic management expertise, enabling them to work in business, translation, international secretarial roles, foreign language education, and related fields. To enhance students’ competitiveness after graduation, the school encourages them to pursue dual degrees or double majors in areas such as Accounting, Finance, and Law, striving to cultivate high-level talents with both foreign language expertise and business management skills to meet societal demands.

The school hosts several research institutions, including the Big Data Corpus and Language Engineering Research Center, the Latin American Research Center, and the "Belt and Road" Regional and Country Studies Institute. These centers support students' academic and professional growth while aligning with national and regional economic development, knowledge innovation, technological advancement, and industrial upgrading needs. In May 2023, the school officially inaugurated the "Empowerment and Capacity-Building Foreign Language Innovation Education Base," a joint initiative with the School of Foreign Languages at Nankai University under the Ministry of Education’s Teaching and Research Integration Program.

The school collaborates with over 20 key enterprises and institutions, such as Transn Translation Service Co., China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration Asia-Pacific Communication Center, Sinotrans Wisdom Technology (Xiamen) Co., Guiyang Eco-Science Popularization Museum, and China News Service Guizhou Branch, to establish internship and training bases. Students have the opportunity to engage in practical training at these bases during their studies.

Furthermore, the school maintains partnerships with several domestic and international universities, including Shanghai International Studies University, Tianjin Foreign Studies University, Dalian University, and Tunku Abdul Rahman University in Malaysia, as well as ORT University in Uruguay and Complutense University of Madrid in Spain. Students have multiple opportunities to study or intern abroad, allowing them to immerse themselves in foreign language environments and diverse cultures.

During their academic journey, students receive systematic coursework, industry internships, and hands-on training to develop their practical skills. They are also encouraged to participate in academic conferences and lectures both domestically and internationally to broaden their academic horizons. Each student is assigned a professional mentor who provides guidance on academic studies, research, and career development within their respective fields.
